Feeling down from time to time it could be a normal part of life. But when the emptiness and despair stand and will not disappear, it could be depression. More than just a temporary blues trough of depression, it is difficult to function and enjoy life as you've already done. Leisure and friends do not interest you as they did, you’re exhausted all the time and just the day can be overwhelming. When you are depressed, things may feel desperate, but with the help and support you can get better. But you first need to understand depression. We all can go through ups and downs in our mood. Sadness is a normal reaction to life struggles, defeats and disappointments. Many people use the word depression to explain the kind of feelings, but depression is more than just pain. Some people describe depression as living in a black hole or having a feeling of imminent death. However, depressed people, some do not feel sad at all, instead, they feel lifeless, empty and apathetic. Regardless of symptoms, depression differs from normal grief that engulfs your life from day to day, interfering with your ability to work, study, eat, sleep and play. The feeling of helplessness, hopelessness and despair are intense and persistent, with little, if any, relief.

Depression is an medical sickness that could involves the mind and body. Also called major depression, severe depression and clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave with others and youself. Depression can lead to a series of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day to day, and depression can make you feel as though life is not worth living. More than just a game of blues, depression is not a weakness, it is not something you can just "snap out of. Depression is a chronic disease that usually requires a long-term treatment, such as diabetes or hypertension. But do not despair. Most people with depression improve with medication, counseling or other treatment.

Depression varies from person to person, but there are some symptoms. It is important to remember that these symptoms can be a normal part of life down. But the symptoms you have, the more they are and they continued, the more likely you are dealing with depression. When these symptoms are debilitating and overwhelming, that's when it's time to ask for help.

Depression can affects significantly  a person's family and personal relationships, work or school life, sleeping and eating habits and overall health. Its great impact on the functioning and well-being has been equated to that of chronic diseases like diabetes. A person experiencing a major depressive episode usually a bit of humor, which permeates all aspects of life, and an inability to experience pleasure in activities once enjoyed.Depressed people may be concerned about, or ruminating thoughts and feelings worthlessness, inappropriate guilt or regret, helplessness, despair and self-hatred. In severe cases, depressed people may have symptoms psychosis.These symptoms include delusions or, less commonly, hallucinations, symptoms usually appear unpleasant.Other of depression include lack of concentration and memory (especially in those with melancholic or psychotic ), withdrawal from social situations and activities, decreased sexual desire and  there will be thoughts of death or suicide.

Insomnia is common among depressed people. Depression symptoms in older adults

Depression is not a normal part of aging, and most older people satisfied with their lives. However, depression can  occur in the adults. Unfortunately, it often goes undiagnosed and untreated. Many adult depression seems reluctant to seek help when feeling down. The elderly, depression may go undiagnosed because the symptoms - such as fatigue, loss of appetite, sleep or sex interest rates - can be heard because of other diseases, the elderly with depression can not be said that they feel dissatisfied with life in general , bored, helpless or worthless. They may have always wanted to stay at home than going out to socialize or to do new things. Suicidal thoughts or feelings of older people is a sign of severe depression, which should never be taken lightly, especially in men. Depression of all people, parents, adult males are at higher risk of suicide.
